A charity at the heart of our community, supporting and inspiring people to improve their physical and mental health and wellbeing.
The Carers Passport is free and available for Carers, aged 18 or
over, who provide care for a Plymouth resident, of any age.
Our Family and Friend Carer
Passport helps:
We are making a
commitment to you as a carer to recognise and value the support you provide,
the expertise you bring and the needs you have in terms of your own health and
welfare. Research shows that unpaid carers of family or friends routinely
neglect their own health and care needs in order to prioritise the needs of the
person they care for. We will help Family and Friend carers to access the
support you need to maintain good physical and mental wellbeing for yourself.
This will enable you to continue your caring role and, when appropriate, we can
help you relinquish some aspects of your caring role. For further information
and to download the Carers Passport Booklet please click this link to Plymouth Online Directory
The passport also offers
discounts on a range of activities across the city to help you
to look after your own health and wellbeing because if you look after someone,
it’s important to look after yourself too. Please see the list of businesses
who are currently offering discounts below.
We are looking for local
businesses and individuals who may be willing to offer discounts/concessions on
their products and services to carers; a great way to support local carers and
local businesses. For further information, please email caringforcarers@improvinglivesplymouth.org.uk.

Free Cinema Entry for Carers
Did you know that unpaid carers can enjoy free cinema tickets? With a CEA Card, which costs just £6, carers can receive complimentary tickets when accompanying the person they care for, ensuring they can provide assistance throughout the movie.
To be eligible for a CEA Card, the person you care for must receive one of the following:
For more information on eligibility and to apply, please visit the official CEA Card website.
Additionally, it's worth checking if your local cinema offers Theatre Access Passes, which may also include free carer tickets.
Secret Cinema also offers a complimentary ticket for carers, with proof provided via a DLA or PIP letter, or a Blue Badge. To take advantage of this offer, simply book in advance through their website. Discover a new, immersive cinema experience beyond the everyday.
Free offers for carers
When planning a day out with the person you care for, it’s always beneficial to check if a "carer goes free" policy is available. Many attractions now offer discounted or complimentary entry for carers, which can make outings more accessible.
If you have a specific destination in mind, the most efficient approach is to contact the venue directly to inquire about their carer policy. Alternatively, you can perform a quick Google search, for example, by typing "National Trust carers go free." Typically, the top search results will direct you to the relevant information, including access passes and details on how carers can receive free entry.
Here are some popular attractions that may offer free entry for carers:
The National Trust is highly recommended by our community for enjoyable days out. The Trust’s properties feature picturesque summer gardens ideal for picnics, cafes, and engaging family activities such as nature trails. Additionally, there are refreshing coastal walks for those who appreciate connecting with the ocean.
The National Trust offers an Essential Companion card, which allows both the carer and the person they are accompanying to enter free of charge. While it is not necessary to obtain this card to benefit from free admission, having it can streamline future visits and enhance convenience.
Please be aware that while most National Trust locations no longer require advance booking, some still do. It is advisable to check whether your chosen site requires pre-booking to ensure a smooth visit.
How can I prove that I'm an unpaid carer?
We recommend verifying specific requirements directly with the venue or location you plan to visit. Commonly accepted documentation to demonstrate carer status includes:
Please ensure that these documents are dated within the last 12 months to be considered valid.
