The hub provides social activity, peer support and mentoring, casework, support for older carers, and works with a range of organisations in the city to shape better pathways to employment, mental wellbeing, welfare, housing advice and financial information.
The hub is run by veterans and their families for veterans and their families. We have a drop-in lounge at the hub for veterans of the armed forces, reservists, and their families. Coffee, tea and camaraderie always available.
The Hub works, with local health service partners, to help veterans get the support that they are entitled to under the military covenant. We deliver training for health and wellbeing staff in the city, delivered by, and with veterans, raising awareness of entitlement, growing an understanding of issues facing veterans, their families and carers.
Casework SupportIn the Hub we have a Caseworker, who works with Advice Plymouth, to provide:
• Information and advice for veterans and their families.
• Assessments of need and support plans developed with you.
• Co-working with partner organisations to deliver the required support.
• Outreach work in various community settings.
Carers Casework at the hub we support veterans and their families to have the happiest and healthiest older age possible.
Social and Support GroupsBrew and Banter
10am - 12pm at Ernest English House
Come and join us for a Brew and meet other veterans for some banter
1st Thursday of every month @ 1:30pm - 3:30pm at Ernest English House
Caring can be very isolating and our carers drop-in/ support groups are intended to be a venue in which carers can meet with other carers, gain support, gather information and seek advice as well as having time away from their caring role(s).
There is a Carers Support Coordinator present at every meeting as there may be times when you want to talk to someone who understands the pressures of being a carer or you may want practical advice or support to help you cope.
Tea, coffee, biscuits and a friendly face will always be available for anyone who needs information, emotional or practical support, or simply feels the need to have a chat.
We are looking for individuals who are currently serving, a Veteran or a family member to support the development of our new and exciting service within the city which supports Veterans and their familes. Whether you have a couple hours or a couple of days spare we would love to hear from you. Please email or call Becky Ormrod, our Veterans and Family Hub Manger to discuss how you can contribute.
