Charlotte is the epitome of an outstanding Student Volunteer Leader within UPSU as President of Plymouth RAG. Her leadership confidence has grown tenfold during her time at University from joining RAG in her first year as a Kilimanjaro Trek adventure participant to taking on the role of Adventure Leader in the absence of another student, taking on the role of RAG Ball and Party Coordinator last year right through to this year where she has taken on the highest responsibility in RAG as President of a 25 strong committee of students fundraisers and volunteers. Charlotte has a naturally gentle and approachable demeanor which makes her committee members feel at ease coming to her about any concerns or questions they have and her extensive knowledge of RAG and fundraising from her own experiences over the years mean she is well equipped to advise and lead them confidently on these matters. Charlotte is a fantastic example of a student that leads by example and isn't afraid to get her hands dirty and get stuck into supporting all manner of RAG Events and Adventure Leader fundraising activities. She also actively encourages her committee to exercise their creativity and voice their ideas to shape their roles effectively. She is also a brilliant example of a student that really takes advantage of every opportunity that comes her way and is always looking for ways to develop herself personally and professionally. When she feels underconfident in her abilities, for example, public speaking and presenting, she does not shy away from uncomfortable situations but actively seeks to improve these abilities to make her the best leader she can be. An example of this is when she took up the training offered to her and the committee by RAGs charity partners to learn techniques such as how to become a powerful and confident presenter even if this incurred personal cost to her. Although she knew this training would put her out of her comfort zone, she stuck with it and really perfected them and has said that she has really benefited from going on this course with regards to her leadership. Overall, I believe Charlotte thoroughly deserves to win this award for her dedication and commitment to leading the RAG Committee this year with the most members of students the Raise and Give group has had ever had thanks to her great leadership.
