George Plenderleith, CEO of Improving Lives Plymouth, opened the 110 Club Launch Event by introducing himself and the work of Improving Lives. He has been with our organisation for ever, no not 110 years. He joined in October 1983, 34 years ago and has been CEO since 1997, over 20 years ago.
“Longevity and sustainability is a hall mark of our organisation across the board” he said. George added, it was a privilege to lead an organisation that has had such a huge impact for good, for many of the Plymouth Citizens who need the most support. Without doubt the organisation has Improved Lives for 110 years.
George shared, “Our history is long and distinguished in the service of the city, but I will not attempt tonight to touch on what would fill several hefty tombs. However, we have a comprehensive archive that reflects the city and its social life over 110 years, from when we started as Plymouth Guild of Civic Help.” He Invited any local history buffs to get in touch.
The modern Improving Lives is a product of its history - its knowledge and experience have helped develop a range of long standing services to support the health and wellbeing of many Plymothians, currently over 17,000 every year.
Many other charities in the city were started under their wing, Age UK Plymouth, Citizens Advice and Victim Support, to name but a few.
Improving Lives Plymouth have not achieved all this on its own, it’s been by working in partnership with other charities, statutory organisations, local businesses and the people of Plymouth.
George and a couple of his colleagues introduced business leaders to the work of the organisation, many said, “We had no idea about all that you do, inspiring”
Certificates were presented to 16 Companies who were the first founding members.
